Lytag is an ideal medium for land drainage applications. Its rounded shape and regular grading give excellent hydraulic conductivity. It has been used to construct sports turf pitches, golf course greens and is frequently used in slit trenching, especially with "Shelton Trenching System" machines.

Many prestigious locations have used Lytag for their drainage including Wembley, the Cardiff Millennium Stadium, Twickenham & the English Golf Academy.

Stability
Using Lytag aggregate ensures a stable material within the ground, which will not degrade over time and is resistant to frost damage.

Logistical advantages

Using Lytag aggregate maximises load sizes, as greater volumes of material can be transported in vehicles. Being half the weight of natural aggregate twice the volume can be carried.

Conductivity
Using Lytag aggregate will improve the hydraulic conductivity many times over gravel. Depending on the grade of Lytag used, flow rates can be improved by a factor of 10.

Inert
Using Lytag aggregate provides material that is inert to natural chemicals found in the ground. Lytag has a PH of 7.

Placing and handling

Using Lytag aggregate reduces the risk of injury from manual handling due to being approximately half the weight of normal aggregates. Being lighter also means less damage to existing surfaces while work progresses. The reduced weight and rounded shape also significantly reduces wear and tear on placing machinery.

Non-compactable

Using Lytag aggregate means that no further compaction will occur in service. Because of the rounded nature of the particles, full compaction occurs at placing, this means no reduction in flow rates during service. It is also suitable for pipe bedding with UPVC pipes.
